    375 Whelen Improved load testing

Rifle is a Charles Daley Mauser action with Adams & Bennet barrel. Tunney trigger.

Bullet - Speer 235gr semi spitzer
    Case - fireformed R-P 30-06
    Primer - Rem 9 1/2
    COAL - 3.216” to 3.227”
    (Tip length varied)
    Approx .015” off the
    Lands ( measured from
    Test bullet)
    Powders - IMR4320 56.0gr
    IMR4895 58.0gr
    IMR4064 61.0gr
Groups were shot at 100yds, 68degrees calm misting rain
The IMR4895 loaf shot the best with a 1.050” group. That is plenty adequate for deer hunting so I don’t know if I will try to get it better. I’m going to load up some more to chronograph and shoot for group again.

I was thinking of trying the last load again too, just in case that one errant shot was me.

Since the original load of 58gr of IMR4895 shot a 1” group, I tried working up the powder charge to see if it would do any better. I kept everything the same but used 58.3gr, 58.6gr, and 58.9gr of IMR4895.

The max load of IMR4895 looks very similar to the max load of IMR4064 from a couple weeks ago.
